Pumpkins Festival

Saturday, November 3, the village of Castell'Azzara, in the province of Grosseto, plunges into tradition with "Pumpkins Festival" an event that tells an ancient tuscan custom: pumpkins emptied and turned into skulls to be lit with a candle.
Nothing to do with Halloween: this custom accompanied the autumn, when the ripe pumpkins, in the company of corn cobs with which they had shared the sowing ground, arrived in the houses of the peasants to be used as food for men and pigs.
And so, for one evening, the charming streets of the historic village of Castell'Azzara are lit by playful lanterns while the palate of visitors is delighted with a menu based on pumpkin (do not miss the pumpkin tortelli with truffles, pork meat and desserts), including music and attractions.
