CHIESA PARROCCHIALE SAN MICHELE ARCANGELO

The provostship of Cinigiano dedicated to San Michele is located inside the town and was rebuilt in 1598 in Romanesque style on a pre-existing 15th century building while the ruins of the ancient parish church with the title of San Martino are a mile away from Cinigiano. Among the most valuable artistic works, a painting on canvas by Francesco Vanni of the Sienese school depicting the Crucifixion with Saint Francis, Saint John the Baptist and Saint Paul at the foot of the Cross is worthy of note. In the transepts, above the altars, there is the Trinity with angels and the Madonna delle Grazie by Daniele Lonati. Another important painting from the seventeenth-century school represents Saint John the Evangelist and the Madonna and Child handing the scapular to Saint Simone Stock with the view of Cinigiano in the background.
