THE CLOCK TOWER IN CINIGIANO

The clock tower is located in Cinigiano. This building represents the civic tower of the municipality. It stands on a previous medieval tower which was then demolished to make room for the current one during the 19th century, imitating the Torre del Mangia of Siena; it dominates Piazza Marconi.
At the base of the tower there is a plaque in honor of the fallen soldiers of the IGM.
The Bell is of notable importance: it is a very important symbol for the people of Cinigiano as it was cast in 1415 by the Sienese Giovanni di Tofano and was previously placed on the praetorian palace to mark the hours of the day with its beat. Thanks to the intervention of the Royal Superintendence, the bell was not cast during the war period. The tower takes its name from the large clock affixed on the side overlooking the square, replaced in the 1950s and restored in 1993.
