The Patanella forest is located within the nature reserve of the Orbetello Lagoon. The reserve established in 1998 by the Province of Grosseto, is managed by the Italian Word Wild Found (WWF) and proposes the repopulation of some endangered species, specific to the Mediterranean scrub. The area of the Patanella Forest is characterized by large extensions of low shrub plants. In the forest has been organized a botanical path that leads the visitor to discover the beautiful oaks, cork and heather that live here undisturbed for years; during this path there are occasionally some watchtowers, from which it is possible, with a little patience, to see some species of raptors like the sea eagle or other migratory birds like flamingos, ducks and coots. The reserve also houses an Environmental Education Center, educational workshops and butterfly gardens.
