Cinigiano and his castles. Known in Tuscany as the territory in which the Amiata transforms the Maremma, which counts in its area: Castiglioncello Bandini, Borgo Santa Rita, Colle Massari, Monticello Amiata, Poggi del Sasso, Porrona, Sasso d'Ombrone and Vicarello, represents a unique landscape. In fact Cinigiano can boast places of cultural interest and vast areas of countryside that host the important vineyards of Montecucco. Not far from the Val d'Orcia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, among the major monuments and places of historical, artistic, religious and cultural interest, it is important to mention: the Sanctuary of the Madonna di Val di Prata, near Monticello Amiata, the Monastery of Siloe, in the surroundings of Poggi del Sasso, the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Soccorso in Sasso d'Ombrone and the Clock Tower located in the center of Cinigiano.
The territory of Cinigiano is also rich in castles and fortifications, of great historical importance. They are the Castle of Colle Massari, the Porrona Castle and the Castle of Vicarello. A triad of fortresses of the thirteenth century in which Siena managed the territory through families of nobles including the Piccolomini, the Tolomei, the Cotone and many others. Today this power can still be perceived, although the victory goes to the natural environment that dominates uncontested with a maze of hills, woods and vineyards, witness to the pleasant combination that here in Maremma Tuscany finds history and nature.
