Infiorata Corpus Domini Pitigliano 2026

The Infiorata is a traditional event that has been held for years now on the occasion of the solemnity of Corpus Christi. The strictly religious festival gave rise to a popular one in which the people of Pitigliano participated along with various economic activities.

The Infiorata belongs to the tradition of decorating the so-called “Baroque festivals”, born in Rome during the 17th century, which consisted of creating paintings using flowers, starting from the Vatican Basilica. Among its first supporters was even the famous Gian Lorenzo Bernini who, from San Pietro, also extended it to Roman castles where it continued in the 18th century when, in 1778, the first Corpus Christi Flower Festival was set up in Genzano.

The origin of this festival is actually much older: it was born, in fact, in Belgium in 1246, to exalt the cult of the Sacrament of the Eucharist.

With the collaboration of the Tourist Information Office, the Pro Loco, and other public and private channels, active participation in the event has been extended to visitors, who flock each year not only as spectators but also as protagonists, thus offering the opportunity to create the floral works with residents.
