From Museum to Museum on 4 October: from Vetulonia to Rocca di Frassinello

From the MuVet to the wine cellar designed by Renzo Piano: a 15-kilometre route through archaeology, landscape and architecture

“‘From Museum to Museum’ allows us to rediscover the area from a different perspective each time, bringing together cultural and natural heritage with the pleasure of walking,” says Irene Lauretti, president of Musei di Maremma. “This is precisely the strength of the project: creating connections between museums, the landscape and the community, inviting people to get to know the Maremma by walking through it.”

The next event is scheduled for Sunday 4 October, with a walk from Vetulonia to Rocca di Frassinello. The meeting point is at 9.00 am at the MuVet – “Isidoro Falchi” Civic Archaeological Museum, at Piazza Vetluna 1 in Vetulonia. The day will begin with a visit to the museum

The route is 15 kilometres long, with an elevation gain of 200 metres uphill and 400 metres downhill. The estimated duration is 5–6 hours, including stops, and the walk is moderately challenging. The group is expected to return to their cars at around 5 pm. The route will follow both tarmac and dirt tracks.
After the visit to MuVet, the group will walk down the road that runs alongside the excavations of the ancient city of Vetulonia. Once past Scala Santa, the route will leave the road lined with Etruscan tombs and cross Provincial Road 152. Passing near Giuncarico, participants will use the E80 underpass to reach Rocca di Frassinello.

On arrival, there will be a tour of the museum and the wine cellar at Rocca di Frassinello, followed by light refreshments. At the end of the day, participants will be taken back to Vetulonia on the shuttle buses provided by the Municipality of Castiglione della Pescaia.
