Ager Cosanus, land of wine. ‘What’ and how people ate it 2000 years ago’

The archaeological parks of Maremma, in conjunction with the food and wine event “Gustatus” in Orbetello, promote the event, on Sunday 2 November, at 3.00 pm, at the Cosa Archaeological Museum and Park, with the conference "L'Ager Cosanus, land of wine. 'What' and how we ate 2000 years ago' edited by Claudio Calastri, archaeologist and co-director of the excavations of the Roman furnaces of Albinia for the University of Bologna. The event is organized to shed light on the typical diet of the ancient Romans, with particular reference to the history and types of wine produced in Ager Cosanus.
On this occasion, some examples of the most common dishes of ancient Rome will be presented without tasting. The archaeologists Irene Piro and Elisabetta Santarelli will in fact propose the typical recipes of the Roman era, handed down from books and pictorial testimonies. This will then be followed by a guided tour of the Cosa Museum and Archaeological Park, organized by MIC staff. in which it will be possible to admire again the mosaics of the House of Diana, recently rediscovered.
The free event, including a visit to the Museum and the Park, is organized by the Archaeological Parks of Maremma in collaboration with the Orbetello Scalo sports club.
