Campagnatico

Campagnatico retains its ancient medieval structure, with the walls that, although fragmented and sometimes incorporated into the housing buildings, as often happens in the operations of reuse, is still shown in its original form. Two more are the current doors, one that shows its beautiful arch open towards the town and the other that is intuited and remembered in the historical signs before the access to Piazza Dante. Our Poet, in this particular case, gives his name to a square, as often happens in streets and streets and open spaces in our beautiful Italy, of which we recall the verses of Canto XI of Purgatory in which Our immortalizes an illustrious personage of the Comital Family of the Aldobrandeschi, family that held its power over Campagnatico until the struggles brought by the Republic of Siena in the thirteenth century in order to subdue the castle.
[... ] Guiglielmo Aldobrandesco was my father;
I don’t know if his name has ever been yours.
Ancient blood and graceful works
of my elders made me so arrogant,
that, not thinking of the common mother,
every man I had in despetto so avante,
that I died of it, as the Sanesi know
and set him in Campagnatico every jack.
I am Omberto; and yet they do not give me
pride does, for all my consorts
She has dealt with the disease.
