Giglio Porto, the only port on the island, is located on the east coast of Giglio Island facing Tuscany and welcomes you being the port of call for ferries arriving from Porto Stefano.
Despite the small size Giglio Porto is a place to discover. The Roman villa of Saraceno dates back to the second-first century BC, whose remains can be seen not far from the shore of Cala del Saraceno. These are the remains of some cetarias, tanks that were used for the breeding of fish (in particular the moray eels, which the Romans were fond of).
Adjacent to the same cove is also the Saraceno tower, built at the end of the '500 by Ferdinando I dei Medici with the aim of protecting the coast from the frequent pirate raids that affected the coast
Small and picturesque, with multicolored houses and a sea of a clarity unthinkable for a port, it manages to reconcile commercial and tourist needs. The very lively atmosphere during the day, with ferries arriving and departing and with its many shops of all kinds changes completely in the evening with the departure of the last ferry: the pier and the alleys with small shops and craft shops invite you to quiet walks and to stop in one of the restaurants, some built on stilts, in a truly enchanting atmosphere.
