The village of Dogana is located along the Ombrone Valley, at an altitude of 206 meters on the back of a hill, near the river Lanzo and the provincial road that connects Paganico with Casal di Pari, old connection between the cities of Grosseto and Siena before the construction of the E78. Near the village, about two kilometers, there is a lake.
History
The village of Dogana is a characteristic rural village of sixteenth-century origin, although a previous settlement was already present from the early Middle Ages, as shown by some finds of bones, metals and ceramics near the village. The town was chosen by the Dogana dei Paschi di Siena as access to the Maremma grossetana and until 1776 the shepherds had to pay for the herbaceous Monte dei Paschi. In fact, the name Dogana has survived, extending to the whole village that was gradually forming. The village was particularly lively in the period between the end of the nineteenth and the beginning of the twentieth century, until after the war the church of Maria Bambina was built, a neo-Romanesque building. After the seventies the village suffered a strong depopulation that reduced the resident population to only 38 people.
