In the Reserve of Lake Burano you will find all the typical natural environments
of the Maremma. The first WWF Oasis was established in 1980 on the territory
between Capalbio, Ansedonia and Chiarone. The reserve covers an area
of 410 hectares, 140 of which are occupied by the lake. It is a coastal brackish lake, about 3 km long and separated from the sea by double sand bars. The lake is “watched over” by the Buranaccio Tower, a fortification built at the time of
the State of the Presidi (state of the garrisons) (mid-16th century).
