Adelina is a 100-year-old old woman who, on her lonely birthday, is visited by a minor devil sent to make her relive the past and urge her to sin. The devil takes her back to 1944, when she was 20 years old, to make her accept the court of Polish Prince Amadeus Poniatowsky, whom Adelina had rejected but regretted in time. Rejuvenated and with no memory of the future, Adelina again rejected the prince.

The devil, disguised as a chauffeur and then as Sora Cleofe, tries to manipulate the situation to make her relent, but Adelina continues to reject the prince. Finally, the devil, in love with Adelina, intervenes to prevent her from giving herself to the prince, losing her powers. Discovered and tried, Max, now human, is welcomed by the community and marries Adelina. Eventually, the Evil One attempts to bring Adelina back to the present, but is defeated by Max. The story ends with Adelina and Max, now elderly, celebrating Adelina's birthday together, surrounded by the characters from their adventure.
