‘But no. Indeed, because in life there are worlds that bid you farewell, that vanish from the horizon of your passions once and for all. Others, however, have no such intention, and keep returning to cross your path. This happened to me with octave rhyme. The first sign came in the spring of ’97. I decided, at the last minute, to take part in the Grosseto conference on ‘The Art of Speech’. I realised that, unlike the Viterbo area, the Maremma region was experiencing a fruitful season of renewed vitality. But that conference also represented – and I would say above all – an unexpected opportunity to finally resolve an old, aching longing of mine: to be able to return to the Maremma with all my boots on.”
