To Separate the Sacred from the Profane, Maria Loboda

To separate the sacred from the profane, Maria Loboda

Place: Cosa (Ansedonia) National Archaeological Park
Time: 11:30
Duration of installation:
19.04.2025 - 30.09.2025
In collaboration with HYPERMAREMMA
The installation consists of a large circular portal four meters high, inspired by the Chinowa, which is located in the suggestive setting of the Archaeological Park of the Ancient City of Cosa at Ansedonia. Traditional object of the Japanese Shintoism, the Chinowa has the function of symbolic door for the purification. In the Shinto belief, crossing a Chinowa represents the transition from a state of impurity to one of purity, allowing individuals to move from the world of sin to that of sacred space. Loboda’s installation links the ancient Eastern Shinto traditions to the rich historical fabric of the Archaeological Park and its thousand-year history. Positioned at a crucial point of intersection between the forum - where political and commercial activities took place - and the sacred area of the Capitolium, the temple dedicated to the Capitoline triad of Jupiter, Juno and Minerva, this work offers a unique dialogue between cultures and eras.
