Castel del Piano: Strolling with the Micci
An extraordinary experience in the countryside of Castel del Piano
Trekking on December 7, 2026: Montegiovi – Castel del Piano - Montegiovi
Rocco and Bianca are two beautiful Micci from Amiata who will accompany the participants on the walk from Montegiovi to Castel del Piano. A “slow” tourism experience that guarantees great quality in the path of natural and human knowledge starting from the relationship with the two donkeys. The Micci are the native breed of donkeys of Monte Amiata that in the past supported the lives of many families who lived in the mountains.
The December 7th event includes a meeting with two environmental hiking guides with expertise in agriculture and ethnobotany at 9:30 a.m. in the square in Montegiovi, the preparation of the ciuchini by loading the pack saddle, and the start of the walk alongside the Ente stream. The nature trail offers breathtaking landscapes and an encounter with nature rich in oak, chestnut and olive groves. The route has a characteristic medium-easy difficulty lasting approximately 2 hours and, if necessary, a guide will follow an easy route to allow everyone to fully enjoy the morning. Arrival in the historic center of Castel del Piano is scheduled for 11:30 a.m., and after a presentation and tasting of typical local products by the Municipality and Vulcanica, the journey will resume on the way back to Montegiovi. Arrival is expected at approximately 1:00 PM at the departure point.

The trek is open, free and possible for everyone: adults, young people, the elderly, families and children.
