Free guided tour from the Underground Museum to the mining village of Niccioleta and naturalistic walk with data collection
The first stage includes a guided visit to the Underground Museum, dedicated to the history of mining that for centuries has characterized the Metalliferous Hills. The naturalistic walk through streets and paths will then begin with the collection of naturalistic data during the route. Participants are invited to collect data on the presence of wild fauna and flora and report their observations through their mobile phones, based on the information provided by the Museum of Natural History of the Maremma, Thus increasing the knowledge of naturalistic aspects in a logic of Citizen Science, participatory science. In detail the itinerary will take participants to the monument to the fallen of Niccioleta, placed in memory of the massacre of 83 miners occurred in 1944, located on the hill above the Underground Museum. then in the beautiful historic center of Massa Marittima, passing by the Tower of the Candlestick and the Library and leaving the town in Via dei Chiassarelli. After passing Ghirlanda you will continue until you cross the SP162 near Pian dei Mucini, taking the disused road that passes next to the Rostan Well, at the Pirite Mine, and then arrive at the documentation center of Niccioleta.
